Fostering a cat

Becoming a cat foster parent is a rewarding experience, but it also comes with responsibilities. You’ll provide a temporary home for a cat in need, helping them adjust to a safe and loving environment. Fosters often care for kittens, sick cats, or those needing socialization before adoption. Expect to spend time on feeding, grooming, and offering plenty of attention, and be prepared for the occasional mess. You may also need to take the cat to vet appointments. While it can be emotional to say goodbye when your foster finds a permanent home, you'll be making a huge difference in their life.

What to expect

As a new foster family, here’s what you can expect when welcoming a foster cat into your home.

You’ll need basic supplies such as a litter box, litter, food and water bowls, cat food (wet and dry), toys, and a comfortable bed. Some cats may need additional items like medication, a carrier for vet visits, or a scratching post. We estimate around $30-$50 per month for food and litter.

In terms of time, fostering involves daily feeding, cleaning the litter box, and giving your foster cat love and attention. Some cats, like kittens or those with special medical needs, may require more time, such as extra feedings or administering medications. Typically, plan to dedicate 1-2 hours per day for care, with additional time for vet visits or training.

By fostering, you're giving a cat in need a second chance at life, and we’re here to support you every step of the way!
